Tri-Valley Writers in Tapestries

Julaina Kleist, CWC Tri-Valley member, was selected by the Downtown Oakland Senior Center to emcee at the December 9th anthology launch. In addition to Julaina, Tri-Valley readers were Sheila Bali and Neva (Janie) Hodges. Jan Davies and Linda Todd were among the hundreds of listeners at this fifth annual event.

NaNoWriMo news

Twelve CWC Tri-Valley members crossed the 50,000-word finish line in the National Novel Writing Month contest. This annual contest founded by Chris Baty, Executive Director of the Office of Letters and Light, concentrates on producing a first-draft novel in November. NaNoWriMo winners certificates have been awarded to Vee Byram, Paula Chinick, Pat Coyle, Lynn Goodwin, Julaina Kleist, Cindy Luck, Elena Manzo, Violet Moore, Kelly Pollard, Julie Royce, Sharon Svitak, and Linda Todd.

Honorable mention goes to member Bobbie Kinkead whose computer crashed. Although she didn’t make it across the finish line, Bobbie is commended for bouncing back with more than 33,000 words after the complete loss of her original story.

Kudos to Sheila Bali, Ronnie Holland, Ann Parker

CWC Tri-Valley member Sheila Bali’s article, “A Tale of Two Cities: 1956 and 1984,” is published in sikhchic online (http://www.sikhchic.com/article-detail.php?cat=21&id=2852). Ronnie Holland was published online in “It really is all about you” blog July 25 (http://itreallyisallaboutyou.blogspot.com/2011_07_01_archive.html). Ann Parker had an author signing for Mercury’s Rise, her newest book in the Silver Rush Mystery series, at Towne Center Books, Pleasanton, November 8.

In Memory of Nancy O’Connell

Nancy O’Connell, charter member of California Writers Club Tri-Valley, passed away in her sleep, October 21 after a courageous battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS/Lou Gehrig’s). A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, November 5, 2011 at 11:00 a.m., at the Graham Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First Street, Pleasanton CA 94566.

Jackie Barsley and Alice Kight published

Jackie Bardsley and Alice Kight will both be featured in the Ina Coolbrith 2011 anthology to be published in November. Bardsley’s “The Seduction” and Kight’s “Tomorrow’s Roses” will appear in the anthology named for California’s first poet laureate (1915).

Ann Koch, Sondra Perry, Sharon Svitak – words and work

Ann Koch has published her first book. It’s All About the Story–Composing a Life in Books is about places and times where books, especially popular mysteries and detective fiction, make a difference in our increasingly technology-focused world.

Sondra Perry at San Ramon Art and Wind Festival

Join CWC Tri-Valley member Sondra Perry and “Henry the Heron” Sunday and Monday, May 29 & 30 at the San Ramon Art and Wind Festival in Central Park.  Sondra will be selling and autographing her children’s book, “The Most Unusual Pet Ever, Henry Our Great Blue Heron and his adventures.  Henry (the cut-out version) will be posing for pictures.
