Eight Tri-Valley members published in Las Positas Anthology 2013

Eight members of Tri-Valley Writers were published in All That Remains, the Las Positas College 2013 anthology.  A  publication ceremony celebrated these and other authors on May 11, 2013, where they each received a complimentary book.

CWC Tri-Valley Branch members in Oakland anthology

Eleven CWC Tri-Valley members have been published in Immersion, the January 2013 Oakland Anthology: Beth Aaland (1923-2012), Jan Davies, Arleen Eagling, Neva J. Hodges, Alice Kight, Julaina Kleist-Corwin, Carole MacLean,  Reme Pick, Julie Royce, Marilyn Slade, and Linda Todd.

Poetry winners at Alameda County Fair

California Writers Club Tri-Valley members Marilyn Slade, Sherry Smith, Alice Kight, and LaDonna Fehlberg won numerous awards for a juried poetry exhibit at the Alameda County Fair 100th anniversary celebration. Poems were read on June 24 and published in the 6th Annual Poetry Reading Book.

Marilyn Slade won the Fair Theme Award with “The Honorable Mr. Alameda County Fair Speaks.”

Sherry Smith won a Silver award with “Selling Flowers in Jerusalem.”

Poets recognized in Livermore

Four CWC Tri-Valley poets were honored at Livermore in Art & Words artist reception April 14, 2012. Among the poems displayed were “Devinely Vine”, “Imagine This” and “Like Fine Wine” by LaDonna Fehlberg; “Welcoming Committee” and “Visit to Alden Lane” by Alice Kight; “Vineyards of Livermore” and Twenty Minutes to Sunset” by Marilyn Slade; and “No Half Measures,” by Hector Timourian. The poems are displayed with others throughout April at The Prudential California Realty office gallery in Livermore.

Breathing Lesson,” Alice Kight‘s poem in the Benicia Love Poem contest, was published in the Benicia Patch, January 11, 2012.

Tri-Valley Writers in Tapestries

Julaina Kleist, CWC Tri-Valley member, was selected by the Downtown Oakland Senior Center to emcee at the December 9th anthology launch. In addition to Julaina, Tri-Valley readers were Sheila Bali and Neva (Janie) Hodges. Jan Davies and Linda Todd were among the hundreds of listeners at this fifth annual event.

Awards for seven TVW members

Jacqueline Bardsley won third place for her poem “Adam” in the Beginnings & Ending category of the 85th Bay Area Annual Poet’s Dinner contest. She also received honorable mention in Poets’ Choice for “Midsummer Eve.”

LaDonna Fehlberg‘s “Poetically Speaking” was a winning poem for “Wine Still Life,” a porcelain painting by artist Eugenia Zobel in the juried Pleasanton Main Street Linked Visual Arts and Poetry Show.

Deborah Grossman, won first place in the Light-Humorous category for “Ode to 3G Mercury.” at the 85th Annual Ina Coolbrith Society Poets dinner on March 19th in Oakland.

Alice Kight‘s “Glimmer” was a winning poem for “Mask” in the juried Pleasanton Main Street Linked visual Arts and Poetry Show.

Albert Rothman, author of “Cowlick Kid,” was awarded second prize in the Adult Nonfiction short-story category at the Pleasanton Poetry, Prose & Arts Festival.

Julie Albrecht Royce received honorable mention for her travel writing, Mackinac Island: Escape to the Past, in the 2010 travel writing contest for 52 Perfect Days (www.52perfectdays.com).

Marilyn Slade had two winning poems on Pleasanton Main Street Linked Visual Arts and Poetry Show, “Flying Free” and “Everything of Mine.”

Marilyn Slade and Violet Carr Moore published

Marilyn Slade and Violet Carr Moore, winners in Summer Travel at the Speed of Haiku contest, were published July 5, 2010, in the Contra Costa Times, Tri-Valley Herald, and affiliated Bay Area News Group newspapers. In addition, Marilyn’s poem “I am a Proud Raisin,” won the Alameda County Fair theme award.
