G. Karl Kumfert is a technology entrepreneur with over 20 years experience in software research and development. He has published dozens of technical research papers under his first name and holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics.
Always a reader in fantasy and science fiction, Karl’s career in storytelling started modestly with fatherhood. At the Kumfert home, stories were not just for bedtime, but also car trips, airports, doctor’s offices, or any place where children got bored sitting still. Each child had their own epic series they could get new installments of, or they would issue a challenge for new stories involving objects or words they picked out.
Karl’s interest in storytelling developed with his children’s increasing appetite for sophisticated plots and characters. When his eldest child started reading young adult literature, particularly fantasy and paranormal romance, he shifted to writing instead of telling stories.
His first novel, The Barmaid Priestess, is a young adult fantasy about a warrior-cleric coming of age. He describes it as Joan of Arc meets Ulysses and hopes to have it published in the near future.
Starting fall of 2013, Karl is also piloting a new social media group for members of Tri-Valley Writers. Modeled after critique groups, the social media group will help writers develop their social media skills in a peer setting.
