Flexing Those Writing Muscles – by Lani Longshore

May began with a vigorous celebration of writing. Towne Center Books held a Book Fight on May 3 – contestants were given five minutes to write a story based on three words chosen at random. TVW members Arleen Eagling, Alice Kight and Lani Longshore competed along with other writers from the community. After three rounds and a death match, Alice took first place.

Patricia Boyle took second place in the prose category in the Las Positas Anthology contest for her story “Preservation.”

Deborah “Jordan” Bernal’s poem, “Dreams”, was a winner in Booktrack’s poetry competition. You can read her poem on Booktrack.com

Club members also took advantage of speaking and performing opportunities. LaDonna Fehlberg was invited by Leslie Haas to read and discuss her poem, “The Vigil”, for the volunteers at Hope Hospice.

Annette Langer spoke before 400 people at a statewide women’s convention in San Jose.

Stacey Gustafson read “The Pitfalls and Pleasures of Parenting” at Peet’s Coffee & Tea in Livermore at the monthly author’s reading.
