Julie Royce

For thirty years Julie Royce limited her writing to legal briefs and memoranda. Determined to break that mold, she wrote PILZ, a current-day legal thriller. While working in the Health Professionals Division of the Michigan Attorney General, she prosecuted doctors who violated the Public Health Code. Exposure to the seedy side of the medical profession provided her with the background and experience to shape a frightening fictional tale of doctors peddling prescriptions for sex and profit. Julie was a panelist in “Writing in Different Genres” workshop at the 2015 Public Safety Writers Association annual conference. PILZ won second place in the published novel category at that conference.

Julie authored two travel books, Traveling Michigan’s Thumb and Traveling Michigan’s Sunset Coast: Exploring Michigan’s West Coast Beach Towns – From New Buffalo to Mackinaw City (Thunder Bay Press).

More recently, Julie published Ardent Spirit, a historical fiction novel that recounts the life of a Native American fur trader, Magdelaine La Framboise, born in 1780. Julie tells the story of this resilient woman who earned respect as a wealthy businesswoman, an educator, matriarch, and leading citizen of Mackinac Island. Two centuries later, Magdelaine La Framboise was inducted into the Michigan Women’s Hall of Fame in 1984.
