Author name: G. Karl Kumfert
G. Karl Kumfert started writing fiction only recently. Though he enjoyed science fiction and fantasy all his life, he started storytelling simply to entertain his own children. As they grew, so did his interest and enjoyment in the art of a compelling story. By the time his children were old enough to read paranormal romance, he had written his first novel: a young adult fantasy. Dr. Kumfert began his career as a scientist and principal investigator at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). While there, he published dozens of papers in journals and conference proceedings under his first name. After nearly a decade, he left research to pursue a career as an entrepreneur. He spent a few years working at a Silicon Valley startup to round out his business skills before striking out on his own. He currently owns and operates a software studio specializing in mobile apps. Dr. Kumfert holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science and a B.S. in Applied Mathematics. He has expertise in coupling multi-physics simulations at extreme scale, designing massively parallel algorithms, combinatorics, graph theory, language design, and compiler technology. His research has been applied to diverse fields such as radio astronomy, plasma physics, nuclear physics, chemistry, metallurgy, cosmology, climatology, and molecular dynamics. In industry, he developed and lead the professional services team for an internet video optimization firm. In his current position he applies a field of mathematics called "game theory" to design fun and engaging mobile games.
